what is Laughter yoga

Laughter Yoga is a unique form of exercise where we laugh without the need for jokes, comedy, or humor.  It is based on years of scientific studies stating that the brain and body can't distinguish between real and simulated laughter.  No matter what mental or emotional state, you can still experience the powerful benefits of laughter!

What to Bring to A Laughter Yoga session

Previous Yoga Experience is Not Necessary

The Laugh With Patty - Laughter Yoga session includes simple breathing and stretching exercises, all done while seated in a chair or standing--no Yoga poses!


No skills to learn--just pure fun!  It's easy, and you will feel like an expert from your very first session. 


No mats, special clothing, or special footwear are needed!  Just bring an open mind, a bottle of water, and your smile!


You will leave feeling joyful, relaxed, and uplifted!

About Patty Posthauer

Since 2019, Patty has been a Certified Laughter Yoga Leader and a graduate of the internationally recognized Laughter Yoga University.  She leads Laughter Yoga sessions for people of all ages, from young children to older adults in local libraries, elementary schools, colleges, and universities around the Long Island, New York area.

Laughter has always been a part of Patty's life--starting as the class clown in childhood, leading to a theatrical degree, and earning her a role in a traveling comedy troupe.  

Patty's serious side led her to earn two master's degrees--one in education and another in rhetoric and performance studies.  When Patty isn't leading Laughter Yoga sessions or teaching as a university professor, she enjoys honing her voice acting skills or embracing nature at the beach or on the golf course.

"Hi! I’m Patty, and I’m excited to share my love of laughter with you. It’s amazing how even a simple chuckle can lift our spirits; I genuinely believe it’s one of the best remedies for the ups and downs we all face. Laughter is a powerful way to connect with ourselves and each other, and I’d love for you to explore its magical effects with me! 


I’ve always loved laughter and getting other people to laugh. From a young age, I was the go-to fun person—the class clown who effortlessly brought joy to those around me with playful antics and silliness. As an adult, my appreciation for laughter has only grown. People often enjoy my quick wit, infused with a dash of sarcasm and a dry sense of humor.

  

My journey into Laughter Yoga started when I caught a news segment about ways to manage stress and spread joy. I was hooked right away! Since becoming a Certified Laughter Yoga Instructor in 2019, I love helping people discover laughter's fantastic benefits. 


In my classes, we dive into invigorating laughter exercises and light-hearted activities that are sure to put a smile on your face. Combining these exercises with some deep, restorative breathing can effectively release the stresses of daily life. Each session is designed to create a safe and inviting atmosphere, allowing everyone to unwind, savor the moment, and fully appreciate the incredible advantages that laughter can offer.


When I’m not leading these lively classes, you’ll find me in a university classroom teaching various communication studies courses. My academic background in communication studies has given me a deep understanding of the power of laughter in building connections and managing stress. I also love spending time outdoors—cycling, golfing, enjoying a day at the beach, gardening, or reading a good book in my backyard.


My mission is to help people uncover the amazing benefits of laughter for their mental and emotional well-being. Laughter Yoga has been shown to reduce stress, boost the immune system, and improve mood. Every session is a chance to spread joy and build connections, while also reaping these incredible health benefits.
